Echologics: Field Technician (Europe)


Echologics, a world leader in Leak Detection and Condition Assessment of Water Mains requires a Field Technician (Field Specialist I) to help execute our rapidly growing volume of work. The successful candidate will participate in a broad range of projects in several countries in Europe. This position will involve a mix of field testing, administrative tasks, data analysis, reporting, client management, project management and will involve extensive travel. Most of the work will be outdoors, conducting leak detection and condition assessment tests on water pipelines, with analysis and reporting duties between deployments.


Primary Responsibilities


  • Field work involving data collection onsite for leak detection and condition assessment projects. 


  • Inventory management and allocation of resources to projects.


  • Data review for reporting purposes.


  • Planning and coordinating project logistics


  • Conducting leak detection surveys on distribution water mains


  • Creating leak sheets summarizing results for project and client distribution


  • Supporting transmission main leak detection studies


  • Supporting condition assessment measurements on distribution mains


  • Conducting flow meter installation, maintenance, and readings


  • Performing pressure meter installation, maintenance and readings


  • Managing and maintain equipment, QA/QC and inventories in a warehouse setting


  • Eventually be able to lead projects and take lead on project reporting.

Required Education & Experience:


  • A completed MBO or HBO education in a (relevant) technical field, mechanical or civil engineering, Water Management, Hydrology, etc.


  • Job or extensive volunteer experience performing hands-on outdoor work


  • Experience with field use of testing equipment, such as surveying, sample collection, underground utility locating, GPS, etc.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Competencies:


  • Ability and desire to travel extensively, within Europe and often on short notice


  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve technical issues and work independently


  • Ability to interact with clients, customers in a field environment


  • Must hold a valid drivers licence level B.


  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of how to use MS Office


  • This position requires basic French linguistic fluency


  • Ability to use basic hand tools


  • Familiarity with water distribution systems, or experience in utility industries


  • Critical competencies: Time Management, Political Savvy, Total Work Systems, Written Communication, Customer Focus, Self-development

These are considered assets:


  • VCA-Basis or VOL safety training


  • Confined space entry/rescue experience or certification


  • Experience with installation of custom electronic equipment, such as security systems, sound systems, etc.


  • Experience in leak detection of water systems


  • Some knowledge and experience of pressure and flow measurement in water pipes


  • Proficient French linguistic fluency is an asset.


  • Basic or Proficient German linguistic fluency is an asset

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:


  • Office environment, location Almere.


  • Site environment such as working in roadways or working in remote forested areas.


  • Extensive travel, 80% to 100% of the time


  • The physical ability to lift and push heavy objects; ability to lift 50lbs


  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders and similar structures, and the ability to work on uneven surfaces.


  • Ability to work in small confined spaces temporarily.


  • Sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit the performance of heavy manual outdoor work in all weather conditions:
    • Work in sometimes extreme weather environments (cold/heat).


    • Work for extended periods occasionally.
